Summit ’19: The Bread We Break

Summit Week is a Xavier tradition wherein the community is invited to ‘do school‘ in a different way. Summit offers students a chance to find a voice around topics that manifest a range of social justice issue. Many students find opportunities to speak out against an injustice we witness in our own neighborhoods. This year’s Summit Topic was related to food and was titled, ‘The Bread We Break’. From breakout sessions to Keynote Speakers for the week of March 25-29, students talked about their experiences and understanding around the topic of food in all its permutations. Teachers, breakout-leaders, and students reflected about each day and discerned important takeaways what from their encounters.

Summit is perhaps most relevant to students as a moment for students’ voice. Thank you to Mr.Larsson on behalf of the Xavier community for inspiring and organizing this year’s Summit Week. Thank you for encouraging the voices of the student body and, especially, student breakout leaders. Thank you, also, to all who accepted the invitation to servant leadership in providing breakout sessions that enlarged our community’s thinking about food. Please take the time to re-watch the video prepared as a review of the week’s activities.
