Winter Formal took place on February 2, 2019, at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Not only did students enjoy a breathtaking view of the valley, but even got to experience the snow.

Bradley McClure (‘20), felt that the dance was a good experience overall. He added that it was unique because of the process to get there, which made it an even better experience. However, he thought that the ride up was a little scary yet still a fun time. McClure had been in the snow before, so he knew what kind of weather to expect. His favorite memory was falling into the DJ set during the dance. He added that the weather was cold, but enjoyed that the dance was at the Tram. Overall, McClure’s experience would have been better if the ride up was not so long. Regardless, it is a night he will never forget!

Tyler Grunnet (‘19), said that the dance was fun and memorable because it was at the Tram. He appreciated the music and said, “The DJ was the best we’ve had in a while.” In Grunnet’s opinion, the ride up was pretty smooth.  He expressed that the snow and freezing cold weather was a bit unexpected. But, added that the snow is what made it feel like a true Winter Formal dance. Grunnet’s favorite memory was being able to experience the Tram with his best friends, as well as enjoy excellent music, snacks, and an “unbeatable view.”

Alex Braunschweiger (‘19) said she really liked the dance this year because she thought it was a different experience. She really enjoyed going up the Tram with her friends. The whole atmosphere of the dance was unlike anything else, especially since it was in the snow. Braunschweiger thought that the ride up was fine and the height did not bother her. She had never been somewhere in the snow, so it was exciting for her to see it snowing. Much like Grunnet, she thought that the music was much better at this dance. Something that could have made Braunschweiger’s experience better would have been a bigger dance floor. She strongly felt that doing it in a place other than the school was a lot better and more enjoyable.

Thanks to SLC and Mrs. Figueroa, Xavier was able to host the best Winter Formal dance yet! The Aerial Tramway overlooks the Coachella Valley scenery at an elevation of 8,500 feet. It also happens to be the world’s largest rotating car. The ride begins at the Valley Station, which is at an elevation of about 2,600 feet and lasts nearly fifteen minutes.
