With the recent posting of the Coachella lineup, the excitement surrounding the music festival has started to boil. Coachella, a staple of desert life, is the highlight of life as a teenager living in the Coachella Valley. The Coachella experience is a once in a lifetime. People swarm in for the weekend’s entertainment. Junior Juliana Burke explained how this will be her fourth year attending. “Each year gets better and better. My first couple of years were definitely a little intimidating but these past two years I have gotten used to the crowds and heat and learned to make the weekend worthwhile”, she said. Burke had recommendations for first-timers: “If it’s your first year, I would tell you to not rush and have such a strict plan. Relax and see whoever and do whatever happens when you are there. Have a small bag, preferably a fanny pack, with a portable charger, money and most importantly remember to eat and always, always, always have water with you.”

The most important part of Coachella is definitely the lineup. The assortment of genres in the festival’s lineup makes it extremely popular as it attracts people who like all different types of music. Junior Melissa Nuno shared, “I am most excited to see Khalid, Childish Gambino, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Jaden Smith, and Juice Wrld because they are some of my favorite artists who I listen to the most. I am a big fan of their music. They are also great performers.” Some conflict occurred involving Kanye in the Coachella lineup this year. Although he was originally supposed to perform as a headliner, he backed out because of stage conditions. This event frustrated Kanye fans, like Sophomore Rayssa Haggar, who were looking forward to his performance. Haggar explained how the situation is “disappointing because I love his music and was looking forward to his performance.” Some people were not as psyched about the Coachella lineup this year, so who the perfect lineup would include. Senior Katie Turek described her ideal lineup included “Rihanna, Eminem, and Zedd”.

Preparations for Coachella start immediately after the lineup is published. The lineup reveal prompts the creation of playlists and planning outfits for the big weekend. Junior Haley Calassan said, “I listen to the artists beforehand on repeat, sleep excessively and drink lots of water so I don’t get dehydrated and can enjoy the festival longer. Finally, I plan my outfits as well as how to do my hair and makeup the night before.” Wind is always an issue at Coachella but can be easily fixed with the help of a bandana.

Tickets for Coachella sold out the day of release, showing the popularity of the festival this year. If you plan to attend, remember to stay hydrated, prepare, and most importantly, have fun at Coachella. Stay safe Saints!
