News of a recent study regarding cell phone radiation has gone viral after results concluded that cell phone radiation, does indeed cause cancer. For the past two years, the United States National Toxicology Program has conducted a simulation experiment to determine the effects of cell phone radiation. Rats were used to simulate the role of humans. They were confined to an area in which they were exposed to intermittent whole body radiation for nine hours a day, every day for two years. The results concluded that 2-3% of the rats developed a tumor.

As of right now, there is no way to actually protect yourself from cell phone radiation, unless, of course,  you were to actually discard your phone for good. The way that cell phones are built requires them to obtain signals through radio waves, thus releasing minuscule amounts of electromagnetic radiation. While the effects of this radiation on the human body are not completely known, there is evidence of its harm ultimately leading to cancer in the body. Researchers believe it will cause the most harm to the central nervous system as well as the endocrine system.

While the effects of cell phone radiation are now known to be severe, this news is most likely not going to change anybody’s usage of their phone. In this day and age, it is almost impossible to live without a cell phone for many reasons: work, communication with loved ones, and safety. But, there are ways to diminish the amount of radiation being spread to your body. It is important to be mindful of when your phone is on you. If it is not completely necessary, try to keep your phone out of your hand, your pocket, or anywhere remotely close. You can also make the decision to use headphones when having a conversation on the phone so that you do not have to press your phone against your face.

While there is no solution to this problem, there are ways to possibly diminish the harmful effects of cell phone radiation. With society’s large dependence on technology, specifically cell phones, and computers, it’s almost impossible to abandon our use of these devices, but hopefully, researchers can find a way to stop this problem for good.
