The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics are finished. Athletes from all around the world gathered in South Korea; they celebrated their sports and competed to bring home the gold to their respective country. Some of the sports included Figure Skating, Curling, Speed Skating, Luge, and Skiing.

This year, the Olympics made history by having North and South Korea teams walk together at the Opening Ceremonies. They never used to walk out together because of the tension between countries. And now they did; this made history. They also made history by having some of the worst television viewing ratings of any Olympics.

Declining viewership aside, there were many amazing competitors this year, including a 15-year-old Russian figure skater, Alina Zagitova, who won the gold medal. She is one of only 4 15-year-old gold medalists in that sport. The U.S. Women’s Hockey team also won the gold medal against Canada for the first time in about 20 years.

The standings at the end of the 2018 Winter Olympics had Norway in first place with a total of 39 medals and the United States in fourth place with 23 total medals. More importantly, the Olympics was a moment when the world came together for the sheer love of sports–an example of our ability to be one.
