K24

Kairos is the most important retreat at Xavier. It is open to Juniors and Seniors but places emphasis on the Senior class. I really did not know what Kairos was. I had always just heard rumors. I heard Kairos was a life-changing retreat. I saw a change in each group that returned from Kairos. There was a strong sense of friendship and comfort among Kairos retreat members. When it came time for me to leave on the January Kairos (k24), I was nervous. What if it did not meet my expectations? What if this was just a hyped-up event? What if it was like all of the previous retreats–even though each of those retreats was meaningful in their own way? I could not have been more wrong. I learned about love, friendship, trust, and vulnerability during Kairos.

What shocked me was the immense feeling of love present during and after Kairos. Kairos changed me, and I saw it change people around me. I have an awareness I did not have before. I want to pass on the Kairos love to others. My experience with Kairos was overwhelmingly positive. I decided to get opinions from other K24 members to see what their experiences were like as well.

“I expected a lot going into Kairos. I did not know what was going to happen, like some of the other kids, and I was very excited to go! I had a great experience on Kairos, and I have learned to see my peers in a different light. I would recommend Kairos to everyone! It is truly a life-changing experience and you will only benefit from it!” – Vanessa Colson

“I did not expect anything from Kairos. I just wanted to not go to school for a couple days. I actually had a great experience, and I felt a sense of love and acceptance that really meant a lot to me. I got a lot closer to seniors, and I would recommend Kairos because it really does change people.” – Claire Villa

“I was nervous about going on Kairos because I had heard so much about it and doubted it would meet my expectations. I actually had a great time on Kairos, and it made me open up to my class and bond with other people. After Kairos, I feel a sense of unity and support among the K24 members, and I would recommend this retreat for everyone because of how incredible it is.” – Matthew McCluskey

So, whatever you have heard or will hear about Kairos, it is clear from our K24 members that it is an amazing experience that everyone should have the opportunity to experience!
