Taking a Knee

The Big Question
October 23, 2017

After standardized testing, college apps and essays, and finals, senioritis begins to spread like a virus among the senior class. The first semester of senior year beings with extreme stress over plans for the future, and it ends with the frenzy that is finals week. It is no surprise, therefore, that after Christmas break, seniors return with a laissez-faire and calm aura. For most of us, senioritis is a phenomenon characterized by a lack of motivation towards school work. Just take a look at how some seniors define senioritis.

“ When you do the bare minimum of work to pass because you don’t care anymore.” – Kevin Tang

“ When you give up on school.”  – Margeaux Bell

“ After trying so long you just get tired of school, and after you’ve been accepted to some colleges you just feel like your future is secured so you don’t have to care about school work.” – Raymond Herrera

With every interviewee stating that they have felt the effects of senioritis I wondered, had they tried to fight through it? And if so, how did they do it?

“I don’t do anything to combat senioritis. Seniors should just give in and relax because it’s our senior year!” – Kevin Tang

“ I don’t do anything to combat senioritis. I don’t care anymore. To other seniors, just don’t fail your classes. That is all you have to do.” – Margeaux Bell

“ I don’t do much to suppress senioritis. If I see my grade dropping, I will be motivated to work to get the grades back up. To other seniors, just keep pushing. You got this!” – Raymond Herrera.

Clearly, the epidemic that is senioritis has hit our graduating class of 2018 hard. To current seniors, just try to keep pushing and work hard. Finish your high school career on a good note!
