Charlottesville Ripple Effect

After the events in Charlottesville there have been many rippling effects due to the anger expressed by protesters which resulted in an attack on anti-protesters and the death of Heather Heyer, a Charlottesville citizen and anti-protester.  In cities and towns across the US statues commemorating Confederate Generals Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee were taken down.  This led to more protests requiring police to come to these events more heavily prepared.  In places like Boston, smaller numbers of protesters were met by tens of thousands of counter-protesters.  The more fully prepared police and the peaceful nature of the larger crowd of counter-protesters meant Boston did not experience the same difficulties as Charlottesville.

Events at Charlottesville have caused nationwide outrage and intense social media commentary.  It has even rippled to our valley.  View local reactions here: http://www.desertsun.com/story/news/politics/2017/08/13/candlelight-vigil-being-held-promote-peace-following-virginia-protest/563183001/. This has created much awareness about racism and serves as a reminder for us not to repeat history.
